Bridgend County Running League

The 2018 season has come to an end. Thank you, from all Cornelly Striders, to those involved in the organisation of these events. We look forward to the 2019 season!

Bridgend County has seen a surge in running and the number of people joining running clubs. There are seven clubs involved in the league races; Brackla Harriers, Bridgend Athletics, Cornelly Striders AC, Ogmore Phoenix Runners, Pencoed Panthers, Pencoed Tri and Porthcawl Runners.

The Bridgend County Running League (BCRL) is an inter-club competition consisting of seven races hosted by each of the seven local clubs. Scoring can appear complicated, however, the more entrants a club has the lower the score can be. And that’s what all clubs are aiming for, as low a score as possible! The first 15 finishers of each club score a certain number of points and each additional runner scores -1 (this is good!). A penalty is served to any club not entering 15 runners on the night.

The events are a lot of fun and and suitable for all abilities. Of course, there is a level of competition, but the camaraderie between the clubs in the Bridgend County is truly wonderful. And you won’t get better cake than at the end of the Cornelly Striders’ event!

No competition would be complete without a little celebration. At the end of each season there is an awards ceremony to celebrate the success of the winning club and individual runners.

Captain Windos will ‘encourage’ you to sign up. She’s unrelenting, unless you have a valid reason. Unfortunately ‘the dog ate my homework’ type of excuses won’t cut it here. She won’t even give us truffles. Hmm… “Jennet…”
